Proposition. Finite changes of references and the product subgroup [fcap-004T]
Let \(G_p\) be groups indexed by rational primes, with subgroups \(U_p,U'_p\leq G_p\) equal outside a finite set \(F\). Write \(G_f(U)\) and \(G_f(U')\) for their restricted products, regarded here as groups of tuples, and \(K(U)=\prod _pU_p\), \(K(U')=\prod _pU'_p\) for their product reference subgroups. The coordinate identity gives a group isomorphism \(e:G_f(U)\to G_f(U')\), but \[e(K(U))=K(U')\quad \Longleftrightarrow \quad U_p=U'_p\ \text {for every prime }p.\]
In particular, finite changes need not preserve even the number of double cosets. Take \(G_p=C_2=\{1,s\}\) at every prime, with \(s^2=1\ne s\), and take \(U_p=C_2\) for every \(p\). Change only \(U'_2=\{1\}\), keeping \(U'_p=C_2\) for \(p\ne 2\). Both restricted products are \(\prod _pC_2\): the changed condition can fail only at \(2\). With left subgroup \(\Gamma =\{1\}\), the quotient by \(K(U)=\prod _pC_2\) has one class. The quotient by \(K(U')\) has exactly two classes, distinguished by the \(2\)-coordinate. Indeed, right multiplication by \(K(U')\) preserves that coordinate; if \(x_2=y_2\), then \(x^{-1}y\in K(U')\) and \(y=x(x^{-1}y)\). Both coordinates \(1,s\) occur. This is a group-family example, without an asserted realization by adelic O, SO or Spin groups.
For two compatible tuples \(U,U'\) for the same rational quadratic form, fix \(H\in \{O,SO,\operatorname {Spin}\}\) and suppose their \(H\)-references agree outside a finite set. The coordinate identity \(e_H\) identifies the ambient groups \(H_f(U)\) and \(H_f(U')\) and carries their actual rational diagonal images onto each other: both scalar extensions of any rational \(h\) have the same coordinate \(h_p\) at every prime. Thus Proposition [fcap-004S] gives \[\Gamma _H(U)\backslash H_f(U)/K_H(U) \simeq \Gamma _H(U')\backslash H_f(U')/e_H(K_H(U)).\] The right subgroup displayed in the target is the transported product, which equals \(K_H(U')\) exactly when all the \(H\)-references agree. Eventual equality alone does not supply the hypotheses for transport to \(\mathcal C_H(U')\) with its chosen right subgroup. This does not assert that different right subgroups always give nonisomorphic class sets. The O, derived SO and generated Spin cases each retain their own subgroups.
Finite-stage adelic constructions provide the background in
[conrad2011adelic, Theorem 3.6, pp. 6-8]; the product-subgroup
criterion and counterexample above are direct deductions.
TauCeti's
TauCeti.map_integralSubgroup_restrictedProductCongr_eq_iff
formalizes the criterion, and
TauCeti.doubleCosetCongr
transports double cosets to the image subgroups. Neither
statement replaces that image with a different product subgroup.
