Proposition. Right translation and conjugate double cosets [fcap-004R]
Let \(G\) be a group, let \(\Gamma ,K\leq G\), and fix \(a\in G\). Write \([x]_K\) for the double coset \(\Gamma xK\). Right translation induces a bijection \[\begin {aligned} T_a:\Gamma \backslash G/K&\longrightarrow \Gamma \backslash G/(a^{-1}Ka),\\ [x]_K&\longmapsto [xa]_{a^{-1}Ka}. \end {aligned}\] Its inverse sends \([z]_{a^{-1}Ka}\) to \([za^{-1}]_K\). The left subgroup stays \(\Gamma \); neither subgroup is assumed normal, and \(G\) need not be commutative.
For the finite adelic class sets, fix a nondegenerate rational quadratic form and a compatible compact-open reference tuple \(U\). For each \(H\in \{O,SO,\operatorname {Spin}\}\), use the same ambient group \(H_f(U)\) of Definition [fcap-004F], its own rational diagonal subgroup \(\Gamma _H\), and its actual product subgroup \(K_H\). For \(a_H\in H_f(U)\), the bijection is \[\Gamma _H\backslash H_f(U)/K_H \longrightarrow \Gamma _H\backslash H_f(U)/(a_H^{-1}K_Ha_H).\] It changes the right subgroup inside this fixed group, without replacing the chosen O, SO or Spin rational image. It is a bijection of sets; no quotient topology, approximation or class-number assertion is involved.
The restricted groups and rational diagonals have adelic context in
[conrad2011adelic, Example 2.3, p. 3, and Theorem 3.6, pp. 6-8].
The conjugation calculation and inverse above are direct group
arguments, not statements attributed to that passage. TauCeti's
DoubleCoset.quotientConjRight
is the general equivalence with this orientation. The three
adelic specializations are
TauCeti.QuadraticMap.OrthogonalCompactOpens.finiteAdelicOrthogonalDoubleCosetConj,
TauCeti.QuadraticMap.OrthogonalCompactOpens.finiteAdelicSpecialOrthogonalDoubleCosetConj
and
TauCeti.QuadraticMap.OrthogonalCompactOpens.finiteAdelicSpinDoubleCosetConj.
In their targets, the inverse conjugation automorphism sends
\(k\) to \(a_H^{-1}ka_H\), as in the displayed proof.
