Proposition. Isotropic rational SO diagonals accumulate in the finite adeles [fcap-004M]

Let \(Q\) be nondegenerate on a rational vector space \(V\) of finite dimension \(d\geq 3\), and suppose that \(Q\) is isotropic. For every compatible compact-open reference tuple \(U\), the finite rational diagonal subgroup \(\delta _f^{SO}(SO(Q))\) is not discrete in \(SO_f(U)\). A sequence of nonidentity rational Eichler transvections converges to the identity while staying in one fixed principal stage.

In the explicit matrix of Example [fcap-002N], take \(t=n!\). Its off-diagonal entries tend to zero at every finite prime, whereas the real entry \(t\) grows without bound. This exhibits what is lost on forgetting the real factor in Proposition [fcap-004L]. In dimension two, \(u^\perp =\mathbb Q u\), so the required parameter does not exist. No assertion about anisotropic forms or universal finite-diagonal nondiscreteness follows.

The transvection input is the general-field calculation in Proposition [fcap-002M]; its totally singular special case is [chevalley1954algebraic, III.1.7 and formula (1), pp. 73-74]. Chevalley's displayed formula assumes both parameters lie in a totally singular subspace; the proof here uses the already established arbitrary-\(Q(w)\) formula. The finite-stage topology is grounded in [conrad2011adelic, Theorem 3.6, pp. 6-8]. The factorial argument above is a deduction from these inputs. Its convergence statement is also TauCeti.QuadraticMap.OrthogonalCompactOpens.tendsto_finiteAdelicSpecialOrthogonalDiagonal_transvection_factorial; that statement needs the two polar identities but not the extra nondegeneracy and dimension assumptions used to obtain a nontrivial sequence.
