Proposition. Restricting a split Schur map to sign sectors [fdip-003Q]

Let \(k\) be a commutative unital ring with invertible two and \(H=X\oplus Y\). Let \(P=P_X\oplus P_Y\), where \(P_X^2=I_X\), \(P_Y^2=I_Y\), and let \(Q:H\to H\) commute with \(P\). Write the typed split components as \[\begin {aligned} A&:X\to X,&B&:Y\to X,\\ E&:X\to Y,&C&:Y\to Y,\\ Q(x,y)&=(Ax+By,Ex+Cy). \end {aligned}\] If \(C\) is invertible, the split Schur map \(S=A-BC^{-1}E\) preserves both sign sectors of \(P_X\), and \[S|_{X_\varepsilon } =A_\varepsilon -B_\varepsilon C_\varepsilon ^{-1}E_\varepsilon .\] Here \(X_\varepsilon =\ker (P_X-\varepsilon I)\), \(Y_\varepsilon =\ker (P_Y-\varepsilon I)\), and each subscript means restriction to the indicated source and target sectors.

This is the sign-sector specialization of Schur transport, using the module projectors. Its block convention agrees with [boyd2004convex, Appendix A.5.5, pp. 650-651] after exchanging the source's first pivot to \(C\). The proof here is over modules; no pairing, self-adjointness, stationary field or probability law has been assumed. If the prescribed splitting is not preserved by \(P\), the required \(P_X,P_Y\) and these restrictions are not supplied.
