Example. The alternating cycle at zero mass [fdip-0038]

The alternating-cycle eigenbasis has constant unit vector \(u_0=(1,1,1,1)/2\); its positive eigenvalues are \(2,2t,2+2t\). Hence the mean-zero law has \[\begin {aligned} \operatorname {pdet}L&=8t(1+t),\\ Z_H&=\frac {(2\pi )^{3/2}}{\sqrt {8t(1+t)}},\\ L^+&=\tfrac 12P_{u_1}+\tfrac 1{2t}P_{u_2} +\tfrac 1{2+2t}P_{u_3}. \end {aligned}\] Its covariance rows follow from the 4 signed sums of Example [fdip-0037] by setting \(d_0=0\), \(d_1=1/2\), \(d_2=1/(2t)\), and \(d_3=1/(2+2t)\). This is the pseudoinverse, not an inverse on the full vertex space.

At \(t=1\), its first row is \[(5/16,-1/16,-3/16,-1/16).\] All diagonal entries are \(5/16\). Thus an opposite field difference has variance \(2(5/16)-2(-3/16)=1\), while an adjacent difference has variance \(2(5/16)-2(-1/16)=3/4\). Both are finite limits of the corresponding massive variances by Proposition [fdip-0034].

The massive constant contribution to every covariance entry is \(1/(4m^2)\). Its divergence cancels in field differences, and kernel factorization gives the exact normalizer relation \[\begin {aligned} Z_{Q_m}&=\frac {\sqrt {2\pi }}{m}Z_{H,m},\\ mZ_{Q_m}&\longrightarrow \sqrt {2\pi }Z_H. \end {aligned}\] The full normalizer therefore does not tend to \(Z_H\); the constrained law uses its own three-dimensional reference volume.

This calculation applies the induced-volume construction of Proposition [fdip-000C] to the positive spectral modes.

[friedli2017statistical, Proposition B.55, p. 505] supplies the positive Gaussian density. The zero-mode removal and its normalization factor are derived above.
