Theorem. Hierarchical Gaussians share a site fourth moment [fdip-009B]

Let \(p\ge 2\) and \(k\ge 1\) be integers, and let the sites be the residues modulo \(p^k\). Let \(E_j\) and \(P_j\) be the nested averages and orthogonal projectors of the nested blocks, and let \(Q=\sum _{j=0}^{k}c_jP_j\) with every coefficient \(c_j\) positive. Then \(Q\) is a positive precision. In the counting basis its inverse has the same diagonal entry at every site, \[\sigma ^2=\sum _{j=0}^{k-1}c_j^{-1}\bigl (p^{-j}-p^{-(j+1)}\bigr ) +c_k^{-1}p^{-k}.\] The centered Gaussian law of \(Q\) gives every site the second moment \(\sigma ^2\), and the fourth moment at each site is \(3\sigma ^4\).

For distinct sites \(x\) and \(y\), let \(v\) be the largest integer such that \(x\equiv y\pmod {p^v}\). Then \(0\le v\le k-1\), and the matrix entry \(Q_{xy}\) depends only on \(v\).

The common value \(3\sigma ^4\) is the Gaussian moment of one quartic monomial. No non-Gaussian hierarchical fixed point is proved here. The paper of Abdesselam, Chandra and Guadagni, arXiv:1302.5971, has not been read, and this note does not state their result. Nothing proved here shows that the nearest-neighbour path precision, the finite Wilson action, or the fourth-power trace is a hierarchical precision on a residue ring.
