Theorem. Triality cycles three real modules and preserves the trilinear [fcap-003U]

For the automorphism \(\tau \) of Theorem [fcap-003T], one can choose real forms of \(S^+,S^-\), invariant positive inner products on them, and real isometries \[J_0:V_{\mathbb R}\longrightarrow S^+_{\mathbb R},\qquad J_1:S^+_{\mathbb R}\longrightarrow S^-_{\mathbb R},\qquad J_2:S^-_{\mathbb R}\longrightarrow V_{\mathbb R}\] whose cyclic direct-sum map \(J\) has \(J^3=1\). Their complex-linear extensions preserve exactly the trilinear \(F\) of Proposition [fcap-003D]: \[F(J_2s_-,J_0v,J_1s_+)=F(v,s_+,s_-).\] The chosen forward cycle intertwines the diagonal group action with \(\tau ^{-1}\). The real forms and inner products are specified in the construction below.

Proposition 5.7 in [adams1996exceptional, pp. 35--36] supplies the invariant-line and real-valued trilinear statements.

Exercises 20.50--20.51 in [fulton2004representation, pp. 314--315] describe the related cyclic tensor symmetry. The construction above obtains that symmetry from the chosen compact automorphism and the real invariant line. Its isometry claim uses the transported inner products just defined; it does not identify them with preselected exterior bilinear forms or assert a normed composition algebra.
