Proposition. Clifford multiplication gives the triality trilinear [fcap-003D]

Complexify the compact model and use the split rank-four exterior carrier \(S=\bigwedge W\) with a chosen top form \(\operatorname {vol}=e_1\wedge e_2\wedge e_3\wedge e_4\). Define \[B(s,t)=[\operatorname {rev}_{\wedge }(s)\wedge t]_{\operatorname {vol}}.\] In degree four this form is symmetric; its restrictions \(B_+\) and \(B_-\) to \(S^+\) and \(S^-\) are nondegenerate. Each creation operator and each polar-dual contraction operator is individually self-adjoint for \(B\). Thus the adjoint of Clifford multiplication by \(x\) is multiplication by \(\operatorname {rev}(x)\), and actual Spin elements preserve \(B\).

For \(v\in V\), \(s_+\in S^+\), and \(s_-\in S^-\), put \[F(v,s_+,s_-)=B_-(\rho (v)s_+,s_-).\] Clifford covariance of \(\rho (v)\) and invariance of \(B\) give \[F(\pi (g)v,\rho _+(g)s_+,\rho _-(g)s_-)=F(v,s_+,s_-) \qquad (g\in \operatorname {Spin}_8).\] The form is nonzero: with the displayed orientation, \[F(e_1,1,e_2\wedge e_3\wedge e_4)=1.\] This is an explicit invariant tensor \(V\otimes S^+\otimes S^-\to \mathbb C\); changing the chosen top form rescales it.

It is unique up to scalar. The full odd Clifford range is \[\operatorname {Hom}(S^+,S^-)\oplus \operatorname {Hom}(S^-,S^+).\] Under equivariant antisymmetrization its degrees are \(1,3,5,7\). Multiplication by the normalized Clifford volume element of the eight-dimensional space \(V\) exchanges degrees \(k\) and \(8-k\); projecting to either chirality block therefore gives \[\operatorname {Hom}(S^+,S^-)\simeq V\oplus \bigwedge ^3V.\] The two summands are nonisomorphic irreducible \(\operatorname {Spin}_8\)-modules, so \(V\) occurs exactly once. The nondegenerate forms identify invariant trilinears with \(\operatorname {Hom}_{\operatorname {Spin}_8}(V,S^+\otimes S^-)\), which is therefore one-dimensional.

[adams1996exceptional, Chapter 5, Proposition 5.7, pp. 35--36] states the invariant trilinear and proves the required multiplicity-one decomposition.

[fulton2004representation, Section 20.3, pp. 313--314] independently construct the Clifford-multiplication trilinear in the complex modules. The displayed top-form formula fixes its normalization in the FCAP creation--contraction convention. It does not assert a normed composition algebra or an order-three isometry of the tensor.
