Theorem. The Killing-adjoint lift has coefficient one quarter [fcap-0020]

Let \(K\) be a field in which \(2\) is invertible, and let \(L\) be a finite-dimensional \(K\)-Lie algebra whose Killing form \(\kappa \) is nondegenerate (the formal hypothesis is \(\operatorname {IsKilling}_K(L)\)). Set \(Q_\kappa (y)=\kappa (y,y)\). If \((b_i)\) is a basis and \((b_i^\vee )\) its Killing-dual basis, then for \(x\in L\) the quadratic Clifford lift of the adjoint action is \[\operatorname {adjointCliffordHom}(x) =\frac 14\sum _i\beta _{Q_\kappa } \bigl ([x,b_i],b_i^\vee \bigr ).\] Here \(\beta _{Q_\kappa }\) is the half-commutator bivector of Convention [fcap-000N]; the summand is the value of CliffordAlgebra.adjointBivector_apply.

Kostant identifies the complex orthogonal Lie algebra with \(\bigwedge ^2L\) and constructs the adjoint map from a complex semisimple \(L\) using its Killing pairing [kostant1997clifford, Sections 1.1--1.2, pp. 275--276]. This supports the complex adjoint construction. The coordinate expression and its \(1/4\) normalization are the calculation here; Tau Ceti's theorem uses the stated \(\operatorname {IsKilling}\) hypothesis over a wider field class.
