Theorem. Abelianizations of the local alternating groups [frap-0010]
Let \(A_d\) be the alternating group on \(d\) letters, with composition rightmost first. Then
\[(A_3)_{\mathrm {ab}}\cong C_3,\qquad (A_4)_{\mathrm {ab}}\cong C_3,\qquad (A_d)_{\mathrm {ab}}=1\quad (d\geq 5).\]The corresponding commutator subgroups are stated after Proposition 4.1 in [marchetti2025rubik, Section 4.1, p. 11]. We give the elementary calculation, using \([g,h]=ghg^{-1}h^{-1}\).
The three cases have separate formalized ingredients.
alternatingGroup.isCyclic_of_card_le_three gives the
cyclicity of \(A_3\). For four letters,
alternatingGroup.kleinFour_eq_commutator identifies \(V\)
with the commutator subgroup, and
TauCeti.card_abelianization_alternatingGroup gives
the quotient's cardinality three; the displayed cyclic isomorphism
then uses the elementary classification of groups of prime order.
For \(d\geq 5\), commutator_alternatingGroup_eq_top is the
perfection statement. These links concern alternating groups, not
the entire puzzle group.
